Homeless to Billionaire: The 18 Principles of Wealth Attraction and Creating Unlimited Opportunity by Andres Pira & Joe Vitale

Create Business Legacy Adventure

In Homeless to Billionaire: The 18 Principles of Wealth Attraction and Creating Unlimited Opportunity, Andres Pira presents 18 principles for attracting wealth, creating opportunity, and celebrating self-discovery.
Inspired by his own massive life changes, Pira details his business journey from homeless and unemployed to telemarketer to a Thai baht billionaire. Using the principles developed by mentors including Brian Tracy, Jack Canfield, and Bob Proctor, Pira put their guidance into action. Innovating along the way and leveraging his own experiences with employees and clients; through failure and success, his 18 Principles were forged. Uncanny wisdom from this millennial adventurer-turned-businessman is blended with proven research and case studies into powerful lessons.

“Do whatever it is you want to do in life. Be whomever you want to be. Go wherever you want to go. Have whatever it is you want to have right now,” urges Pira.

The book is part autobiography, part success workbook, and 100% life lessons as Pira details how to move from fear to inspiration, competitiveness to domination, and student to mentor in business. His call to action is for readers to live their legacy every day.

Principle #1 Lead a laser-focused life

Knowing exactly what you want in life is the first principle of wealth attraction. You must decide on your specific goals and be very determined about what’s important in your life. The key is to keep that goal on top of your mind and be open to course correction as new opportunities arise.

Principle #2 Take risks, responsibility and action

Research shows people who are sociable, impulsive or aggressive  may be especially likely to take risks. If you compare Mark Zuckerberg ‘the college kid lacking business sense’ to a professional manager at NewsCorp who ran MySpace like a business, it becomes apparent whose risk tolerance paid off.

Being a risk taker means you’re passionate about what you do. The brain is rigged for error-based learning, which is why we naturally learn from experimentation. Take Steve Blank, CEO of Rocket Science Games, for example. Instead of quitting after losing $35million in funding, Steve went on to start another company, Epiphany, which netted each of its investors $1billion in return.

Principle #3 Focus on “I Am”

I am whole since I’m deeply grateful that I’m a whole person with no handicaps.

I am healthy since nothing in this world can be of much pleasure if I have a sick body.

I am happy since happiness is a fundamental key to my success and wellbeing.

I am wealthy since I need to create what I want in mind first before it can manifest.

I am helpful since there is no greater feeling than helping others without expecting anything in return.

Principle #4 Make thinking time a priority

Finding time to be yourself helps you practice self-care, an excellent technique to reflect and focus on what lies ahead. When you love yourself fully, then you can do the same for others. If you feel guilty about alone time, remember spending time on yourself for yourself doesn’t mean you are selfish. It means you’re dedicated both to yourself and those you serve.

Principle #5 Celebration creates addiction to progress

Teresa Amabile, a HBS professor, led a study analyzing 12,000 diary entries from 238 employees at 7 companies. The findings were fascinating. Workers’ motivation was enhanced when they wrote daily diaries. The simple practice of writing down our progress helps us appreciate small wins, which in turn boosts our confidence. Confidence is the key to unlocking future more considerable successes.

Principle #6 The law of vibrational giving

Giving with positive emotion is the central practice of Buddhism. Buddha teaches what’s far more important than giving is the intention and state of mind when you give something. The karmic benefits amplify after one gives purely. A pure gift is one provided for the proper time, person, circumstance and is one earned by honest means.

Principle #7 Gratitude, a true hero isn’t measured by the size

In positive psychology research, gratitude connects with deeper happiness. People feel more positive and deal with adversities better when they’re grateful for something, anything. The more scientists research gratitude, the more they realize how powerful it is in shifting life in the most positive ways.

The first step to switching on your gratitude switch is to start ‘internally’. Start feeling grateful for yourself, your accomplishments. It doesn’t mean you’re egotistical. No matter how significant, there are plenty of aspects in our lives that we can be grateful for – a beautiful sunny day or a happy barista at our neighborhood coffee shop.

Principle #8 Have Ideas so massive others get uncomfortable

Mind is like a muscle. You use it or you lose it. Your mind takes its time to grow but remember a single thought is what you start with to overcome the most significant obstacles in life. For an idea to grow big and expand, you must embrace the harsh realities of life and respond by adjusting where needed but never shrinking.

Principle #9 Be passionate

Not being able to recognize your passion can be a problem for those stuck in jobs they don’t enjoy. It’s all too easy to fall into a negative spiral as you want to make a switch but you’re not sure what to do next.

Finding your passion is easier than you think. Start by answering what subject could I read five hundred books without getting bored? What could I do for five years without getting paid? What would I spend my time doing if I had financial freedom to do anything?

Principle #10 Master your emotions

There’s an opposite for everything. With love comes hate. With joy comes fear. With success comes failure. With positive becomes negative. It’s impossible to go through life without experiencing some form of negativity or pain. The key then is not to let it affect your entire life. The more positive your life becomes, the larger the negativity it might arise. This does not mean you should let it stand in your way of great success and wealth.

Principal #11 Wake up expecting problems.

Everything comes down to solving problems and solving problems comes down to your mindset, or how you turn problems into positive solutions. To succeed and lead in your field, you not only have to come up with good solutions, you also need to be innovative.

Tina Seeling, the author of Insight Out: Get Ideas Out of Your Head and Into the World, said “Imagination is envisioning things that don’t exist. Creativity is applying imagination to address a challenge. Innovation is using creativity to generate unique solutions. Entrepreneurship is applying innovations and scaling the ideas by inspiring others.”

Principle #12 Embrace apology

Respect the old when you’re young. Help the weak when you’re strong. Confess when you’re wrong because one day you’ll be old, weak and wrong.

When you make a mistake, first be honest about it. Take full responsibility and don’t try to justify it or explain it away. Second, drop any pretense that the other person did anything wrong. Blaming others is not apologizing. Third, don’t let the situation linger. Once it’s over, it is over.

Principle #13 Fitter body, stronger mind

The CEO of Facebook works out at least 3 days a week, usually in the form of taking his dog running. The founder of Virgin Group wakes up as early as 5 to kite surf, swim or play tennis. The former president of the United States exercises first thing in the morning, alternating between lifting weights and doing cardio. He’s not only the most powerful man in the world for 8 years, also an accomplished father, speaker and author. The most you pay attention to successful people, the more commonality you’ll discover. They start their days early, making any form of exercise a priority.

Principle #14 Pay more, give more, keep more

Attracting wealth is one thing. Keeping wealth is completely another. In both life and business, wealth isn’t only about how much you have, it’s about how loyal and committed your people are and how much time you have to spend on your passions outside work. Andres put it this way: “After running dozens of successful businesses, I teach the concept of Pay More, Give More, Keep More. Pay more than you’re expected to when compensating  your teams and vendors, because they’ll pay more attention to detail which your clients will deem valuable. Give more personal, non-monetary compensation to your team, vendors and clients. Keep more time for yourself by managing your team, vendors and clients from afar.”

Principle #15 Perfect mimicking and mentorship

Start simple and small when you try to become just like your models. Real success is available to anyone who’s willing to work for it. Mimicking others is one of the fastest ways to do that. When you want a particular type of success, do your research and find the models in that field. It’s like following a scientific formula. Follow the same steps they’ve taken but do adapt to your situation. Wherever you want to be, there’s almost always a person who has been there.

Principle #16 Invest in your employees

After you’ve hired someone, take time to help them create their own goals. See what you can do to make sure they succeed. It’s the first way your employees recognize your investment in them. Take their goals and put them up in the office so everyone knows what they’re doing. This type of communal support is another level of investment. The team members then begin to help each other succeed because in driving each other’s passions, the business continues to improve by leaps and bounds.

Principle #17 Value positivity over results

To gossip is a verb, which means something you choose to do. This also means you can choose not to do it. Gossip always involves a person who’s not present. Commit to yourself first and then gain commitments from your team that you will choose not to respond to negativity about any person in the company on and off the job. Mind your own business, do good work, be a professional adult and expect the same from others.

Principle #18 Do, be, go, have

Do whatever it is you want in life. Be who you want to be. Go where you want to go. Have whatever it is you want right now. The key is not just thinking about what you want to become, where you want to end up and what you want to possess. You have to take action… now!

Let your days fill up with small moments that work together to achieve big dreams. Every minute of a day is a blessing in one way or another. Everything good works together for the greater good. Grasp the positive around you and cling to the benefits. Find those who’re the best for you and hold onto them who’ll lift you up and propel you towards success.
